History of Caner Bach

Caner Bach is situated in an enviable elevated location, southeast of the village of Blackmill, Bridgend. It benefits from excellent views, country walks and horse rides. It is directly situated on the picturesque Ogwr Ridge Walk. Grid reference; Latitude 51’33’54 North and Longitude 03’31’33 West. 235 metres above sea level. We have been able to obtain farmhouse records dating back to 1815. Hopefully we can find older records as we dig deeper!

Today Caner Bach Farmhouse sits on just a few acres of land, but was once a working farm with about 35 acres.
The farmhouse was left unoccupied in 1985 and over the next 24 years slipped into a state of dereliction, until purchased by Janet and Adrian in August 2009. Shortly after, Caner Bach Farmhouse underwent a substantial but sympathetic restoration programme to what you see today.

On completion of the farmhouse, the project gained a 1st Place Home Conversion - Building Excellence Award for the County of Bridgend.
Also shortly after that, a Home Conversion Highly Commended Award for the South Wales Region. Even now, work is still ongoing on the outbuildings, coral, boundary fencing and external landscaping. Caner Bach Farmhouse is once again home to a selection of farm animals, albeit on a much smaller scale to its former past. Please come and visit when you can, we would love to give you the tour.
